GSIS V: 370

Composed on autumn paddy fields at the poetry competition held at the house of the Tsuchimikado Minister of the Right [Minamoto no Morofusa (1008-1077)].

秋の田になみよる稻は山川の水引き植へし早苗なりけり

aki no ta ni

sanaFe narikeri
In these Autumn paddies
Wave rows of rice:
In mountain streamlets’
Waters planted;
See what’s become of those seedlings!

GSIS V: 352

Sent to someone who was late returning after going somewhere he had heard the chrysanthemums were particularly splendid.

きくにだに心はうつる花の色を見にゆく人はかへりしもせじ

kiku ni dani
kokoro Fa uturu
Fana no iro wo
mi ni yuku Fito Fa
kaFeri si mo sezi
Just the word of chrysanthemums
Moves your heart-fading
Flowers’ hues
Folk go to see, yet
They make not such a homecoming
