Cords of mulberry cloth

Yūdasuki 木錦襷 were cords made from mulberry bark which were used to bind up one’s sleeves during sacred rites. In this poem, Sanekata’s image of the cords stretching the length of the mountain, with its connotations of size, is meant to reinforce his urging to pray to the Gods in the final two lines.
