MYS IV: 680

Three poems by Yakamochi, Lord Ōtomo, on parting from a friend.

けだしくも人の中言聞かせかもここだく待てど君が來まさぬ

këdasiku mo
pitö no nakagötö
kikase ka mo
köködaku matedö
kimi ga kimasanu
Perhaps
To folks’ idle tongues
You’ve hearkened?
For I have waited long
Yet you have not come.
