Fujiwara no Tsune’ie

Lord Fujiwara no Tsune’ie, Junior Third Rank

従三位藤原朝臣経家 (1149-1209)

Tsune’ie was the brother of Fujiwara no Ari’ie and shared the same parents. Like his brother, he had a successful court career, becoming both Minister of the Imperial Household and Director of the Bureau of Palace Storehouses and rising to Senior Third Rank. He is known to have taken part in many poetry competitions, but was essentially a conservative and, with his uncle Fujiwara no Suetsune, opposed the innovations in style proposed by Teika and Emperor Gotoba – a fact which means he is no longer regarded as a significant poet.
