SKKS XII: 1117

Composed on ‘love by the sea’.

すまのあまの袖にふきこすしほ風のなるとはすれどてにもたまらず

suma no ama no
sode ni fukikosu
shiokaze no
naru to wa suredo
te ni mo tamarazu
At Suma the fisher-folks’
Sleeves get blown about by
The incoming tide’s winds:
Familiar it is, indeed, yet
I cannot grasp it in my hand.

Sada’ie
