Ah, the stag,
Entangled, tripped
On the autumn bush clover;
Dewdrops turned gemlets
Have wrapped him all around.

Deities dwell
Upon Mount Mimuro, where
I forge my way,
Cutting and sewing the brocade of leaves,
I feel!

MYS XI: 2472

A poem expressing feelings in metaphor.

見わたしの三室の山の巌菅ねもころ我れは片思ぞする

As I gaze
Upon Mimuro Mountain’s
Hardy grasses on the crags
How fondly do my
Thoughts dwell on you.

The fading
Hues of our passion our end
Do mark: at Mimuro mountain,
A world ignorant of such showers
Is what I long for.

Fading and gone am I!
My fickle love,
Sated, in autumn hues
Kogarashi Forest, burning with wind
Fanned fire, and drenched in dew.

Drizzling on and on, so
My sleeves are never dry
On this autumn day
Surely, the mount of Mimuro
Must be yet more deeply dyed.

Scarlet leaves

Are marked with similar hues.
