たびたびの千代をはるかに君や見ん末の松より生の松原

kimi ya min
suwe no matu yori
iki no matubara
Journey piled on journey
At a distance of a thousand years
Will you see?

When he had not visited someone whom he had got to know for a long time, he went there, and sent this in from the gate.

住吉の松にたちよる白波のかへる折にや音は泣かるらん

sumiyosi no
matu ni tatiyoru
siranami no
kaFeru wori ni ya
ne Fa nakaruran
At Sumiyoshi, a pleasant place,
The pines are washed over
By the whitecaps;
With their retreat
Are they left rootless, weeping wails?

住の江の松を秋風吹くからにこゑうちそふるおきつ白浪

matu wo aki kaze
Fuku kara ni
kowe utisoFuru
oki tu siranami
At Suminoe
The pines by autumn winds
Are blown, so
Their voices add to
The whitecaps, off the shore.
