SKKS IV: 363

When he composed a hundred-poem sequence at the urging of the Monk Saigyō.

見わたせば花も紅葉もなかりけり浦のとまやの秋のゆふぐれ

miwataseba
hana mo momiji mo
nakarikeri
ura no tomaya no
aki no yūgure
As I gaze out,
Neither blossom nor Autumn leaves
Are here;
In a beachfront hut
On an Autumn evening.

Fujiwara no Sada’ie
