物おもはぬ野べの草木の葉にだにも秋の夕べは露ぞおきける

mono’omowanu
nobe no kusaki no
ha ni dani mo
aki no yūbe wa
tsuyu zo okikeru

How startling—
Even the grasses and trees upon the plain,
Leaves turned sere,
This autumn evening
Are weighed down by dew.
