When I was at the Horikawa Palace, and Lady Koma no Myōbu was behind a folding screen, a globeflower was tossed over it, and I realised that His Majesty was there, too.
やへながらいろもかはらぬ山吹のこゝのへになど咲かずなりにし
| yaFe nagara iro mo kaFaranu yamabuki no kokonoFe ni nado sakazu narinisi |
Eightfold, Your hues remain unchanged: O, globeflower, But within nine folds Have you bloomless become…? |
物思ふに過る月日は知らねども春や暮れぬる岸の山吹
| mono’omou ni suguru tsuki hi wa shiranedomo haru ya kurenuru kishi no yamabuki |
In gloomy thought I’ve passed the days and months All unknowing, yet Has spring ended, With the globeflowers blooming on the shore? |
