Funeral gifts

Another piece of wordplay: a Futi was a deep pool within a river or other body of water, while the homophonous Futi was a pecuniary gift made by a wife towards the funeral expenses of her parents-in-law. Presumably, the need for funds to cover this expense was why Ise was selling the house. There is a further piece of wordplay on se ni ‘in the shallows’ and zeni ‘cash’.
