Yoshitada refers in this poem to the summer festival (now known as the Aoi festival) held at the Kamo Shrine in Kyoto, for which greenery from the sakaki tree, the sacred tree of Shintô, was gathered. The ‘Holy mountain'(kami yama) was the hill behind the shrine.
