Iki no matsubara

The phrase iki no matubara いきの松原, which I have translated here as ‘groves of living pine’, was a set poetic expression for the province of Chikuzen 筑前 in the north of modern Fukuoka 福岡 prefecture in northen Kyushu, which one would have to travel through to reach Usa Shrine.
