Kyokusui Festival

In the Kyokusui Festival (originally an event at the Chinese court, but adopted by the Japanese), courtiers would be seated along the banks of a stream flowing through the palace gardens. A small boat containing a sake cup would be floated down the stream and each courtier in turn would drink from it, recite a poem and return it to the water to float down to the next person along.
