Nakahara no Munetoki (960-1011) was a member of the lower nobility who held a number of posts as a provincial governor and finished his career at the perfectly respectable level of Junior Fourth Rank, Senior Grade. This poem, in which he longs to combine the best elements of plum, cherry and willow, is his sole recorded contribution to the poetic canon.
