Sanekata Shū 251

When a lady was returning to her estates and I had said I wished to speak with her, but we were unable to meet, I sent this to her house the following morning.

風をいたみ船出し野田の海人よりも静心なきめをもみるかな

kaze wo itami
Funadesi noda no
ama yori mo
sidukokoronaki
me wo mo miru kana
Cruel blows the wind on
Ships setting sail; Noda’s
Fisherfolk have less
Unquiet hearts and
Suffer less than I.
