On planting the rice fields: thinking deeply upon the various famous places in Michinoku, and feeling especially fond of the remains of the barrier house, we set out upon the old roads and came to the place now called Shirakawa.
早苗にも我色黒き日數哉
sanae ni mo wa ga iro kuroki hi kazu kana |
The rice-seedlings are out, And I am tanned black– All these days in the sun, no doubt! |
