Sanekata Shū 319

When a lady, with whom I had been conversing secretly, borrowed a pillow from me, I wrote this upon the paper with which I wrapped it.

しるらむとつゝむ枕のほどみればいかにいひてか塵はらふらむ

siruramu to
tutumu makura no
Fodo mireba
ika ni iFite ka
tiri FaraFuramu
Knowing all,
Discreetly wrapped this pillow is:
Should it catch another’s eye,
How will you explain it?
That you were but dusting it, no doubt!
