Peter MacMillan states in the notes for his translation of the Tales of Ise that this poem is very similar to both Man’yōshū #2422 and to Tales of Ise #74, and that the version in the Tales is likely a reworking of the Man’yōshū version:
岩根踏みへなれる山はあらねども逢はぬ日まねみ恋ひわたるかも
