わがやどの梅のはつ花ひるは雪よるは月とも見えまがふかな

At my house
The first plum blossom
In the daytime for snow, and
At night for the moon
Might be mistaken!

みやまいでてまづはつこゑはほととぎすよぶかくまたむわがやどになけ

yobu kaku matamu
wa ga yado ni nake

Emerging from the mountains’ depths,
To begin, you give your first cry,
O, cuckoo!
Thus I would wait and call you
To sing at my own dwelling!

夏はつる扇と秋の白露といづれかまづはおかむとすらん

My fan or the autumn’s
Silver dewdrops
Which will be the first
To fall, I wonder!
