Snow upon my brow

Snow upon the head was a common metaphor for becoming old, so Yasuhide is saying ‘The spring sun [which would revive a plant] cannot melt this snow [and reverse the effects of age]. This conversation must have taken place between 869 and 876, as the Crown Prince referred to above was Emperor Yōzei who was born in 868 and placed upon the throne at the age of eight.
