The Jōkyōden 承香殿 was one of the buildings in the Imperial Palace complex. The poem indicates that the lady in question has left the service of Sanekata’s uncle, Naritoki, and taken up a position there, possibly in service to the consort of Emperor Kazan, Shishi 諟子. This has led her to break off her relationship with Sanekata.
