荒し男のいをさ手挾み向ひ立ちかなるましづみ出でてと我が來る

On the 20th day, Second Month, twenty poems about sakimori were presented by the Superintendent of Sakimori , Musashi Province: Mikuni, Lord Azumi, of the Senior Sixth Rank. However, unskilful efforts were not recorded.
防人に行くは誰が背と問ふ人を見るが羨しさ物思ひもせず

“For a border-guard
Whose man is to go?”
The people ask;
Seeing them I envy,
Feeling nothing else.
我妹子と二人我が見しうち寄する駿河の嶺らは戀しくめあるか

Together with my darling
The pair of us did gaze upon
Wave-washed
