Sanekata Shū 94

When the Lord of the Koichijō Palace sent a letter to the Lady Suri, she sent no reply, saying only that he should look for her in the Forest of Inaba (Rejection):

むすぶてふ山井の水もあるものをなにゝ因幡の峰をかくらむ

musubu teFu
yamawi no midu mo
aru mono wo
nani ni inaba no
mine wo kakuramu
‘From cupped hands,’ the poet says:
Water from a mountain spring
We have aplenty, so
Why upon Rejection’s
Peak should you be found?
