In the mountains’ heart
Pine needles weighs down and
Pushes through: moonlight. |
夕月夜入江に塩や滿ちぬらん芦のうら葉の鶴の諸聲

On moonlit nights
In the inlet do the tides
Reach their peak, perhaps?
From the reed tips comes
The calling of the cranes. |
冬くれば庭の蓬も下晴れて枯葉の上に月ぞさえ行

niwa no yomogi mo
shitaharete
kareba no ue ni
tsuki zo saeyuku |
When the winter comes,
From the mugwort in my garden
The growth clears away, and
Upon the withered leaves,
Clearly falls the moonlight. |

古傘の婆さと月夜の時雨哉

Old umbrellas
Spring up by the score on a moonlit night
When the rain comes down. |
On fireworks.
花火せよ淀の御茶屋の夕月夜

yodo no ochaya no

Let there be fireworks!
Before the tea-chamber of the Lady Yodo

女倶して内裏拜まんおぼろ月

I gaze at the Palace
