My darling’s house has
Rice fields before its door—to see them
Have I come,

あしひきの山のしづくに妹待つとわれ立ち濡れぬ山のしづくに

On the leg-wearying
Mountain, among the droplets
I await my darling, so
Standing there, I’ll be drenched
By the mountain droplets!

ふりはへてはなみにくればくらぶやまいとどかすみのたちかくすらむ

hana mi ni kureba
kurabuyama
itodo kasumi no
tachikakusuramu
When with many trials
The blossom have I come to see
Upon Kurabu Mountain
Already does the haze
Seem to rise to conceal them.

いもやすくねられざりけりはるのよははなのちるのみゆめにみえつつ

hana no chiru nomi
yume ni mietsutsu
My darling, uneasily,
Does sleep;
On a night in springtime
Scattering blossom, alone,
In her dreams does she ever see…

On Kiyomi River
