Kanpyō no ōntoki kiku awase 8

A chrysanthemum from the beach at Fukiage in the province of Ki.

In the autumn breeze
Gusting at Fukiage
Are the white chrysanthemums
Blooms, or are the not, and just
The breaking waves?

Long lasting as the world,
Upon the beach at Fukiage
By the tide-borne wind
The streaming sands
Are shattered as my thoughts of you.

Washed by waves,
My night is sunk in sorrow,
Lacking e’en a glimpsed dream.
